Erudite, analytical intellectual wanted(female)Spend most of my free time reading. Current book: Point Counter Point, Aldous Huxley. Recent reads: After Many a Summer, Huxley; The Man Who Was Thursday, Chesterton; The Return of Eva Peron, The Killings of Trinidad, VS Naipaul; Housekeeping, Marilynne Robinson. Spend literally weeks not uttering more than a few sentences to any person. Have three friends in Taipei, whom I see once a month, if that. None are Taiwanese. One is the most cynical and unemotional person I have ever met, and one of the most unusual and enjoyable to spend time with; another is a Belgian intellectual of immense mental capacities; and the last is an American who is, unusually for a Yankee, well-travelled, well read, knowledgeable, and thinks for himself. Best friend (frequent communication) lives in Syria. Work in the security industry. Travel overseas for work 3-4 times a year. Talk to no one in the office unless absolute must, not even to say hello. Make an exception for my boss, whom I actually like enough to treat as a fellow human being. Am boisterous, pushy, talkative, seemingly cheerful, and flirtatious when meeting article contributors face to face (again, none are Taiwanese). In the office, am the only employee who gets away with never attending meetings; making a point of being “difficult” when I disagree with company policy; being unsubtle about my disdain for corporate thinking (employees bonding exercises, loyalty to company, etc); and showing my aggressive, self centred, dominant, impatient, judgemental, anti-Taiwanese, and individualistic personality. Drift in and out of various countries, and have so far drifted in and out of different jobs/careers. More to the point, take on philosophies and moralities very firmly, but as a developing person, change my mind or question these a few years or months down the line. Find it difficult to relate to people; anyone outside of myself. Ironically, can be very sociable esp when I want something out of the person I am talking to (which I always invariable do), so that I seem socially well adjusted, confident, independent, assertive, unemotional, diplomatic, capable, goal-oriented, hard working, etc; which is only one side of me (i. e. the one I like to manifest to the outside world). Would prefer not to be contacted by anyone with a lower IQ than me, less well read, less educated, younger, less interesting, with few ideas, few eccentricities, sure of most things about life (without even knowing they are sure!), egalitarian, kind-to-a-fault, shy, unassertive, too emotionally dependent on others, and unable to handle everyday practical life.
